DiveHatteras is a North Carolina L.L.C. owned and operated by Ann and Dave Sommers.  We specialize in offering divers a custom dive charter experience to world class bluewater shipwreck sites from Hatteras Inlet on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  Operating since 1990, Captain Dave and the boat crew have the diving knowledge and experience to provide as safe and exciting a wreck diving experience as possible.

Captain Dave's first dive was in a Virginia rock quarry in 1975.  By the next weekend he had a full set of equipment and thousands of dives later he is still passionate about the sport.  Ann shares this passion for diving, she too loves exploring shipwrecks and is also an avid conchologist.  Both of us instructed diving for several years at a shop in Virginia where we lived and thru that became wreck divers who love to do u/w photos and videos as well as hunt for artifacts and new shipwrecks.

In order to satisfy our need to go wreck diving we bought a boat and named it SeaVentures.  We used the SeaVentures for wreck diving out of Ocean City, MD, for several years.  We moved the boat to Hatteras for "just one season" many years ago and have been hooked on Hatteras diving ever since!

Over the years we have owned several different boats to get out to the wreck sites and they were a progression to the boat we have today; each bigger and more capable than the last.

The current boat is a 42 foot Duffy, built in Brooklin, Maine, specifically for use as a charter boat.  Atlantic Boat Company builds most Duffy boats as either commercial offshore lobster/fishing boats or very high end yachts and they are known for their traditional lines, sea keeping abilities and well crafted hulls.  The boat has a very nice layout and lots of deck space for her length along with a very large salon to allow the divers to get out of the weather.  Down below you will find a large head and shower, a full galley and settee.  There is also a V berth forward for tired divers to sleep on the way out to the dive site.  The Duffy has proven to be a great sea boat and perfect for our diving.

Once purchased, what to name the boat?  We went down the list of possibilities and after some discussion this boat became "Lion's Paw" and when you are on board, you can ask Ann why.

We look forward to seeing you in the upcoming season.

We both love diving or we wouldn’t be doing this!
